Meeting A Film Maker

Andrew Johnstone

                  

Andrew Johnstone is a film maker, Photographer and Web-designer who has presented his documentaries professionaly on the BBC 'inside out' on TV. He came to visit our media class in a lunchtime lesson talking to us about the baselines and starting points of film making and how Andrew himself is successful in his job to this present day.

In the slideshow above there are picture of Andy's equipment including his expensive broadcasting camera which shoots in professional broadcasting quality resolution. The camera is 4 years old. The camera includes a wide angle lens which gives the camera view a larger view span. Also the camera includes a shammy cloth where the eye rests which prevents fogging up the viewfinder.

Also there is a fluffy coated boom microphone which is used to cancel out any unwanted noise.

Most of his opportunities were luck based as he did'nt study media at educational level but he took all the opportunities that came his way and has succeeded greatly.

Story Board For My Preliminary Task

 

This is mine and Roberts idea storyboard of what to do for our preliminary task . we both created induvidually our own storyboards for our own originalities anf for general practise as its an essential skill to have.

The storyboard is fairly rough and did'nt take too long to finish and as they are rough drawings they don't give too much accurate detail away as we dont know exactly what the scenes are completely going to include.

Mise-En-Scene

• Definition: The arrangement of scenery and stage properties in a scene and everything in the scenes (the props) has been put in there for a reason.

• For example one main part of Mise-en-scene in costume/make up which can be seen directly depending which state the character is in e.g messy hair indicating that the person had possibly been sleeping rough when actually the person could of just been in a rush. So this leaves the audience guessing otherwise.

• Also colours on characters clothes can identify the characters identity/background like the colour black mainly represents death and evil whereas the colour white on a characters costume symbolises good and innocence.

The Dark Knight Rises Deconstruction of film poster

  This film poster is completely black and white which gives us the impression instantly of dark and negativity by the main colour being black. This links to the title of the film , The 'Dark' knight rises. The main source of light in the poster is loitering over the shattered mask on the floor slightly right to the centre of the poster. This mask is obviously Batmans and that makes the audience realise that batman has obviously been hurt/beaten up by (we assume) the large/strong character walking away in the background behind Batmans shattered mask.

This is incredibly powerful as it draws the viewer into watching this movie even more. Also it is raining in the background which is another factor which adds onto the dark and negative atmosphere making the poster as evil as possible. The viewers automatically think that as Batmans mask is broken on the floor means batman has no mask to cover his face anymore indicating that his true identity has been breached (by the Bane , the character in the background). 
This makes us want to watch the film even more to find out what really happens. Bane is shown as dominant and superior as he is tall/muscular and walking away with his back to us hiding his own face/identity from the camera.

The Connotation of the poster is mainly making the audience realising batmans true identity has been found out by the evil chracter in the background that has presumably shattered batmans mask.

The Denotation of this poster is a dark/negative/evil atmosphere with a shattered batman mask on the ground with (presumably) a villain walking away in the background.

Go Pro 60 second Remake

My (Group) AS Level 60 Second Clip Go Pro Re-make

This is my 60 second video clip remake copy of the chosen video me and Robert have chosen base my clip on. Our clip is based on adrenaline based adventure including slow motions and time lapse scenes included. As our clip had to be 60 seconds (one minute) we had to edit the soundtrack in the background so the videos sync with the sound a lot more within the 60 seconds.

Go Pro Hero 4 : The Adventure Of Life In 4K

 This is the video we copied , we tried to get close with some scenes but as most scenes were shot abroad in the most scenic places in the world with high advanced quality cameras, we tried hard to shoot scenes with colour and good effects to draw the audiences attention. Also most scenes shot in this Go Pro video were filmed with a remote control drone which i do not own which are incredibly expensive. Overall we tried our hardest to come close to the original copy of the Go Pro video!
From crerating this 60 second copy , i have learned that to get quality shots and clips , you have to be incredibly patient and keep experimenting woth lots of solutions so then you have a variety of shots/clips to choose from when coming to perfect your clip.
Also as we had only 2 weeks to make our clip, we only properly started creating/filming it in the second week so next time we will start preparing earlier on by planning before we do practical filming.
